raindrops

I love these photos of raindrops on the ocean.
I miss the sea sometimes. There's something primordial and haunting about staring at an ocean's horizon and listening to the sounds of the waves for hours.

the addiction continues

My newest purchases? The two lovely Sherwin & Cotton Stag tiles.
How can you resist their majestic heads and desolate landscapes? I especially like the reflection in the pool of water on the left one. Can you resist?

I can't :)

1950s Lunchtime

I thought this was very cute, I especially liked how you needed to comb your hair before lunch :)

What good manners! You don't want to be Mr. Bungle!

fall weather

I know that officially back in the States it is not fall yet, still end of summer, but over here fall came like a wet blanket over a month ago. If I had any reservation about fall's arrival, it was squashed last night when I left the Royal Albert Hall to be confronted with a great grey sky blanket of rain. We contemplated waiting for the rain to slow before biking home, but after taking one look at that wet sky, it was clear there was no slowing.

Motto for the night?
At least once you're wet, you're wet.

end of summer

For the last summer vacation of 2010 we went to Lyme Regis for a long weekend to go fossil hunting :) We came back with lots of fossil loot- if you want to see a photo skip to the end- and had an all around very fun time, especially as the sun graced us with its presence on the Monday :)

walking on rocks after the tide is out

Lyme harbour (tide in)

can you imagine a place more beautiful?

when the tide is in, adventurous fossil hunters (us) climb out on the slippy rocks to get to the beach with good fossils...

seaweed rock

I have a thing for rocks, it goes back to when I was little and would come home with rocks in my pockets. I like these knobbly, sea-worn ones

You can see how the cliff breaks away in layer on the left. That's why there are such good fossils always to be found.

mega-ammonite

whee :) :) :)

big ammonite someone carved out so you can see better detail

And our loot!!!

stories

Very sweet and very happy and very sad.

Danny & Annie from StoryCorps on Vimeo.

I've downloaded some of the StoryCorps podcasts from iTunes NPR. I like the idea behind StoryCorps, preserving our modern stories for the future in an age when most stories are not written down and preserved in any other way. Recording oral traditions sounds very positive to me :)
