I have this thing about the world we live in today. With the increased use of internet sites like facebook and blogger and tumblr, and our constant use of instant messaging, text messaging, and now video calling, it seems like we are getting farther and farther from having daily face-to-face interactions.
That's why when I am out and about I like to do some simple acts of kindness, which in the past were just common courtesy. For example, holding the door open for people. Think about it, how many times do you walk up to a door after someone and have to reach out to grab it before it closes, or have it slam in your face? Holding the door open for someone may not be a huge deal, but it could just brighten someone's day.
Take today, while entering Taco Bell to get a quesadilla I saw a man coming up behind me and I reached out to keep the door open. He smiled and gave thanks and I said 'you're welcome' and smiled back. After getting our mexican goodness we went back outside and as we were about to get in our car, the same man came running out and handed us some gloves we had dropped. A few minutes later, when he was leaving again, this time with his food, he waved good bye to us and I waved back. That simple action of holding open a door forged a connection between two strangers and a series of good deeds.
Just think next time before you let a door fall in someone's face. You could have the chance to make two people's days better :)
