bakelite

As you may or may not have noticed, my Mother's obsessions sometimes have a way of becoming my own and vice versa. My newest acquisition? Bakelite fever.

There's just something about the solid, chunky, sometimes slightly translucent early plastic that makes my heart go a-patter.

Take this example- a set of 6 fat bakelite napkin rings...

so funky right?

and then there's all the forms you can find bakelite in....
such as buttons (ah, giraffe buttons!)...

animal shaped napkin rings(!), a pair of salt/pepper cellars, the handle of a syrup jug...

even toys- a bakelite toy phone, a bakelite baby toy...

and, my favorite, a bakelite lighthouse lamp. I mean, how can you say no?

There's a nest of baby robins under my parent's deck. They're so perfect and small and pink, you can even see their little eyelashes :)
