wrap up 2

This week was very busy and emotions/tensions were all over the place as everyone got ready for the notting hill carnival. For some this meant boarding up their shops and evacuating their residences, for others (us crazy ones) it meant true acts of bravery and motivational speeches in preparation for the event.

Here's what I liked this week.

Finally got to see Coco Before Chanel. It was really good and surprisingly like Edith Piaf's life in La Vie En Rose...

Booked Christmas flights back home with BA's holiday sale.

Admired this new, beautiful, expensive Liberty teapot.

Got these beauties on ebay.

weekend home style: quirky living

I really like this quirky home, it makes me feel like the owners truly took every element they liked and made it their own.

who wouldn't want a fireman's pole in their home?

and swirly clouds on the ceiling?

and a wall o' books?

and a fun craft room to make crazy hats in?

and a boat over the living room?

stars over the massive dining table?

colorful bedlinens and a bedside table with sides?

and most of all, who wouldn't want a stained glass window in their hall?

my newest covet

I saw a much more simplified (completely wooden) version of this drafting table at an antiques fair on Tuesday. It was far too big, though I did contemplate it for awhile. Instead, I've decided that we are fully capable of making one...

*fingers crossed

wrap up

A few of my favourite things this week...

I didn't have high expectations for this movie, but it was actually really good.

Have you seen the people who got in the way of the squirrel's vacation photo?

Two cheap, cool projects with Ikea furniture via Design*Sponge.

A very cute party, who doesn't love Peter Pan?

Warm on the toes for cold winter days.

New tiles, for me .....

and not for me...

Custom monogram napkins inspiration, via anthropologie.

Lastly, two movies to see, one coming out Aug 28, the other Sept 11 (UK).

cardigans

This in-between weather can really get to me sometimes. It's not like in the states where summer can offer sleeveless warmth, over here you (or at least I) have to wear a cardigan almost all the time. This means, both summer and winter, and I have to admit that I have about 3 cardigans that just get worn over and over and over.

So recently when browsing online I started to look for some new options for fall, and for some new options to keep me warm when it gets freezing and there are no heaters in sight, just lots of cups of tea...

First, thick options for winter days biking and standing in freezing shops. They all appeal as they are slightly off-kilter. I love the hand sketched feel of the first, and then the slightly western/boho feel of the second (I bet all that fringe would keep me warm), and then the softness of the third ---

Havana Sweater Coat, On-the-Fringe Sweater Coat, Letizia Cardigan

Second, lighter-weight cardigans, for not so cold days and layering. I don't know if I like the first because it reminds me of our roadtrip or because all the reviews say it's so much nicer in person, the second just looks like a wonderful warm cocoon (and I do look good in green, but have very little), and the last has an interesting shape but wouldn't be quite as versatile---

Painted Desert Cardigan, Stirabout Sweater, Twist & Tether Cardigan

And lastly, two items from Toast's new autumn collection that just look divine together---

and that's the end of my cardigan rant
