fall wishes

I keep coming back to these items for fall.

I think they all have in common being warm and cozy and natural coloured.

I even just like the feeling all these images evoke.

Perfect fall coziness in preparation for winter's full force.

hazel

this is Hazel.

She is a Scottish kitten

and likes to wander around her house.

On this day she was especially excited to get into the attic room, which is normally kept shut.

She tried disguising herself as a radiator...

but soon realized...

it wasn't big enough...

So instead she disguised herself cleverly as a lump in the carpet.

But her sister Rosie was no fool...

And in the end Hazel decided it was better to be a kitten than a lump that was sat on.

p.s. I need a cat

weekend home style: rustic cottage

this is the before and after: la maisonette du coteau
click here to see the before pictures as well

I love big wooden tables like that for kitchens.
Those copperish lamp shades are also very cool.

what a bathroom!
They say they raised the bath so they could see the lovely views from the little window.
There's something about big baths with the fixtures in the middle so you don't bump your head or toes on the faucets...

I like the idea of actually using your entryway as a room.
add a nice comfy chair and voila! it becomes a place you want to be.

what a light airy bedroom. I like the random angles of this house.
(as long as you don't bump your tall head)

ooooh, those stone walls. yummy.
and a gas hob. oh yes.

still settling in our new place, it's hard when weekends aren't free...

blast from the past

oh my.

I remember these clothespin dolls very well.

I went through a craze making them when I was about 9 or 10.

$20 each?!?!

I really need to find my niche.... ;)

swayze tribute

I think this is the best tribute to patrick swayze I have seen so far.
design*sponge has created room design boards inspired by dirty dancing.

it would be fun to live Kellerman-style for a bit ;)

cool weather

it's been getting cooler of late. temperature-wise it's really starting to feel like autumn.
I can't remember where I found these unfortunately, but I really like them as projects to spruce up our new digs.

We're still getting everything unpacked and settled, and fixing all the little things you can't imagine how the tenants before you could live with- such as trying to clean in a lethargic shower. Ah well, this is renting folks.

holly leaves ornaments

now just to find felt...
I don't remember any at the fabric stores I went to with my Mom a week ago, but I'm sure I must be able to find some somewhere.

constellations

I like these embroidered constellations from MinatureRhino on etsy.
It would be fun to do a whole wall of them to suspend over your bed at night.
P.S. My Mom is here! Lots of fun planned

toast home autumn 09

Toast finally has their new autumn home collection online.
It reminds me of cozy winter nights...
lots of flannel, robes, blankets and warm winter colours.

the flannel candy floss sheets are cute and so are those velvet hangers

blue speckled mugs and a warm autumn wrap

the big grey flannel duvet makes me want to jump into bed, and oh, those vibrant red rugs...

a huge towel to get warm after a bath, and a handy bath rack to store all your things

and finally, beautiful slightly mis-matched plates, bowls, and linens

Lovely.

weekend home style: eames era

It's beginning to get very nippy over here. Autumn has finally taken over. All of a sudden everyone is walking around in big coats with scarves. Many times this week I was dressed inappropriately, it's hard to make the transition from no coat at all to massive coat, hat, etc.

I've gotten very into eames era and dansk-ish furniture.
I've had these photos on my computer for awhile now, the feel of the house kind of reminds me of these styles.

retro table

I like how the curves of the coffee table mirror the curves of the sofa

nice wooden dresser with his 'n her sides

cute silhouette portraits

notting hill carnival

The notting hill carnival is quite an experience for the senses. If you walked the entire route of the carnival it would take 5 hours. There's lots of music, lots of cooking (lots of chicken), lots of people (600,000 this year), lots of police (over 5,000 visible), and lots of horses (used by police for riot control).

cookies 'n' cakes

some may think cookies are too polite for carnival, but others think not

crowds coming down the street

food being sold, imagine closing all the doors and windows to your kitchen and cooking lots of fried foods- that's the carnival smell

ready to face the never-ending crowds

just a tiny portion of the overall crowd

police on horseback on ladbroke grove

fresh units being bused in

overall, everyone stayed alive and had a good time
