clothes: fall chic

I pulled these clothes choices from J.Crew and Anthropologie. Most of them are J.Crew (i.e. all the model ones.

I'm loving blue/green combinations, as well as more vibrant hues combined with neutrals. I like the subtle 40s/50s influences as well, such as the sleeveless dress in the bottom right.

I think I've reached the point in my life where I can appreciate the subtle pop of color. Of course, I will always love blacks and browns and creams, but sometimes color is fun, especially when there's so much color in nature during our northeast autumn!

shop: glasses

top row: beckett, colton, langston, preston
bottom row: nedwin, thatcher, webb, sibley

I got sucked into Warby Parker's website last night after seeing Jenny's new glasses. They have a nifty option where you can upload a photo and digitally 'try on' the glasses, AND they even have a complimentary service where you can choose 5 frames, have them sent out, return them free of charge and decide whether or not you want to get a pair!

I think my top 5 I'd want to try are:
(7) Webb in Amber
(2) Colton in Sandalwood
(3) Langston in Amber
(4) Preston in Sandalwood
(1) Beckett in Black (just so I can try some in black)

I think the Webb look the best, but who knows unless you try them!

liberty + nike

They've done it again, Liberty of London and Nike have teamed up to produce more of their adorable shoes (see above and below). I resisted the first time, but oh, geez, are they cute or what? My only possible chance of resistance is to remind myself that they have mainly used the new season fabrics, none of the classics that I love.

Also, to prolong the drama, they are only releasing them in spurts. So that means that the first 4 designs are available now (some already selling out online), and the other 6 will be released over the month. Hm, and I will be in England over the later part of this month, hm...

In the meantime, you can check out their Twitter to keep up to date on design releases.

homemade is best

IKEA is coming out with a new cookbook. I can't find out when it will launch... I'll have to check in our very close by local IKEA when I am next there...

It's called Homemade is Best (Hembakat är Bäst), and while it does contain recipes and pictures of recipes, it also contain photos of the ingredients in the recipes, which are all the more cool.

It's fun to try and guess the recipe from the ingredients.

Take a crack at these:
(go to the bottom of the post for the answers)

a)

b)

c)

d)

As part of my mother's family is Swedish, some of the recipes are familiar. It will be fun to see the recipes I love to make, like pepparkakor!

Yum yum yum, Swedish gingerbread, yum yum yum

Answers:
a) Prinsesstårta, or Princess Cake, sponge cake with a green marzipan covering.
b)
Vaniljhorn, crescent-shaped shortbread cookies.
c)
Lingonpeparkaka, gingersnap cookies with lingonberries.
d)
Mandelmussla, almond shortbread topped with lingonberries.

Click here for IKEA's link with all the ingredient photos from the book.

toast home autumn 09

The clothes at Toast always look comfy and cozy, which is something I find very important when the weather starts getting crispy (like right now!!). Their photos also make me want to go out into the English countryside and find a secluded cottage to lock myself away in.

However... this weekend I am looking forward to a weekend adventure with friends to Stonehenge and then Bath! Strangely, out of the four of us, I am the only one who has been to both.... and I am the only one who is not British... ah well. :)

apologies for the delays in service

Last weekend I stopped into Liberty (surprise, surprise), mainly to see their newest fabric collection. I was excited to see that they have expanded the fabric section and have added a lot more Liberty of London lines using both old and new fabric patterns.

teapots and toiletry bags and coasters etc

cutting fabric

new season fabrics

jackson pollack -style prints

rich coloured florals

the fishes

beautiful shawl (a mere £295 or so...)

Zucchini pancakes for Sunday lunch!
mm mmmm

Girls' night on Wednesday :)

Last night's Dark and Stormy
(yummy- I'm not a rum person really, but this is rum, ginger beer and lime, and it's good)
:)

morning components for today's breakfast biscuits

I couldn't resist the new LIberty fabrics, so I got a meter each of these three :)
And, last but not least, my newest tile addition-
Sherwin & Cotton circa 1900, I think it's reminiscent of a seahorse...

northwest coast jewelry

Both my Mom and I really appreciate are from the Pacific Northwest, especially the beautiful silver jewelry made by the Tlingit and Tsimshian. When we went to Alaska when I was in High School my Mom got me a beautiful silver ring with a raven around it, which I still wear often today. I'm very glad I had some sense of style (or at least what was pretty) in High School and my Mom was willing to see the ring as an investment piece for me :)

I did do some searching recently and found some people selling online...

I think they're all wonderful, impossible to choose a favorite!!!

j.crew

I've been window shopping again at J.Crew...
I really like their earthy fall palette they have been adding new items to recently.

My favourites are below:

I especially like the alpaca cardigan, sunrise dress, dixon boots and minnetonka boots, but if someone wanted to treat me to all of them I wouldn't complain ;)

They have also posted some of their fall 'looks'. They're not all for me, but I like elements of these...

I like the different furry vests, denims, and that coat in the last look.

What do you think?

new liberty fabrics

I love some of the new Liberty Art Prints for their fabric.
Some of them are very Japanese in style, but I think I like them mainly because I am a sucker for all things Liberty (at a price of course :) )

There are two or three variations on each print in different colors, but here are a few of the patterns I liked.
vibrant
subdued, but I like the dots in the background
big, lazy, purple flowers
graphic flowers
like under the sea
cool landscape print
I'm a sucker for tiny leaves, it reminds me strikingly of the classic Liberty Glenjade print
fish pretending to be bird in Strawberry Thief
And I just realized that I got this as a remnant in my last Liberty visit :)

Hopefully I can get some more of these patterns as remnants,
given time of course :) :)
Ha, if only I was rich enough to wrap presents in Liberty fabric...
