beds beds beds

anyone who knows me knows that I have a thing for beds. there's just something about the perfect bed or mattress, and since you spend almost half of your life in bed I think that it should be a pretty great place to be.

There are a lot of elements that I like about this bed(room).  First off, the warm dark brown walls and curtains with the colourful prints.  Then there's the most important element- the plush, comfy duvet in a beautiful cream to offset the darkness in the room.  I also like how the homeowner threw in punches of colour with throws and pillows.

When you use neutral colours on the foundation elements (the walls, curtains, linens) then you can constantly change the other colours that you use in the room.

Although this room is a lot more neutral, I still like the overall look of the bed and the wonderful owl prints on the wall.

I love that headboard and the bench at the end of the bed.  More recently I've been thinking that it would be a nice touch to make a tall bench to put at the head of the bed, where you could put alarm clocks, phones, books, etc., but I also like the idea of a truck or bench at the end of the bed where you can store extra linens.

How to make a small bedroom work.  Light walls, but still punches of colour and lots of pillows to make it really comfy.

And finally, the piece de resistance, the beautiful, arched, iron bed with voluminous pillows and creamy colours.

winogrand

Garry Winogrand was one of the first photographers that I fell in love with when I first started learning about photographers all those years ago.

He is most well-known for his street photography of the 1960s, and was influenced by Walker Evans, Robert Frank, and Cartier-Bresson.  His camera of choice was the Leica 35mm with a pre-focused wide angle lens.  I like his photos of crowds the most, somehow he is able to capture everyone's personalities in just one frame.

margot

one of my favorite movies is The Royal Tenenbaums, directed by Wes Anderson.  I especially love Margot Tenenbaum's style and personality.  I think I have a new costume idea for next Halloween...

I have tried to re-create Margot's movie looks

louis vuitton pre-fall 2009

I love this 30s/40s/50s vibe that is coming back with pencil skirts, rich colours, ankle socks and slim cuts, but still with modern touches of patterns, funky furs, sweater capes, sky high heels and an overall sophistication.

I can't help but look at some of the cute clothes that they have on sale at J.Crew's crewcuts and think about what I'd like to dress kids in one day.  Here are a few outfits I threw together...

craft time

being stuck in the usa it is easy to resort to reality TV to pass the time while waiting for paper to be pushed.  One of the more entertaining TV shows is Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?  Some of these brides/weddings are so out of control and stressful that they make me cringe in pain.

To balance out these programs someone should really create a TV show about doing weddings on a budget, on a more personal, sentimental level, because isn't that what weddings are really supposed to be about?

With that in mind I have making my own wedding invitations the past two days (did I mention I'm planning a wedding ;0) ).  Although it does take some time to make them (mainly because I am measuring everything by hand and using some scissors like a razor blade), I get great satisfaction out of knowing I have made them myself.

ingredients:
sky blue card sheets (each sheet can make 6 cards), cream envelopes (which can be used to determine the size of the cards), glue stick, white card stock to print photo on, cream paper to print inside invitation, decorative flowers and flower punch to embellish the front, embossing powder to turn ink stamps into fancy embossed type

flowers from the scrapbooking section of the craft store

all I can say is that if you try this you should be imaginative and never think that your idea is too complicated.  We ended up going to two craft stores (AC Moore and Joanne Fabrics) and to Staples.  I had a general idea in mind before I went (blue background, photo on front, embellishes), but I didn't think about the possibility of ink stamps, and especially not embossing.

It is your wedding day after all, make it special..... :)

yes!  I knew I loved Gwyneth for a reason.  We even have the same taste in uniform.  Aka: Legging pants and t shirt/sweater; Sweater dress, leggings and boots.  I need to try out the other version of black stretch skirt, t shirt, leggings, and blazer.  Too bad I left my stretchy black skirt in London...

yes!  my uniform.

need to try.

funny thing is that I was looking in Harper's Bazaar yesterday and found this picture of Gwyneth in her uniform.
