redbush

Living in England I have developed an avid relationship with tea.  In winter I will have at least 3 cups a day, and even on 'warmer' 'summer' days I will have tea as well.

My newest discovery is Redbush, or Rooiboos, tea (pronounced "Roy-boss").

Well, this really wasn't my discovery.  My friend Heidi has always been a fan, and lately she has been trying to find natural remedies for iron deficiency.  While surfing on the internet she discovered that Redbush tea promoted iron absorption, and then proceeded to find out that Redbush has many other (claimed) benefits, such as anti-mutagenic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-viral activities.  It helps to relieve stomach ulcers, nausea, constipation, and heartburn.  It is also caffeine-free.

Some people even go so far to claim that Redbush helps delay the aging process.  Japanese scientists have found that it contains a mimic of the enzyme Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD), an antioxidant which attacks the free radicals that cause aging and limits their damaging effects.

I don't know if I believe all of this, but hey it can't hurt, and the tea does have a lovely subtle, yet vibrant, taste, and a very aromatic smell.

I guess only time will tell what the effects are... ;)

I loooove Roobios tea. Don't know whether you remember but I bought a box when I was at Whittard's. Take it up to Berwick with me along with my green blueberry tea.
